Agenda

As well as being good language users, teachers of English also need to have ‘the knowledge of the underlying systems of the language that enables them to teach effectively’ (Thornbury 1997:x). In this session we will discuss the importance of reaching higher levels of proficiency as part of a teacher’s continuous professional development. We will also consider aspects of teacher language such as language ability, knowledge and awareness and how these can enhance teachers’ ability to use English effectively and appropriately in their daily work.
